What is a Hotslings Classic sling?

Hotslings Classic Slings are sized to fit the parent (click here for size chart). Nine sizes offer caregivers a custom fit and make babywearing on the go as easy as possible. No buckles, snaps or rings mean no adjusting between uses. Just throw it on and go. Hotslings Classic Slings are offered in our Reversible, Designer and Organic Collections.

How do I know what size to buy in a Hotslings Classic sling?

How can I find out my Hotslings Classic size if I buy a Hotslings AP?

Finding you’re Hotslings Classic size from your AP is easy. Simply adjust the AP to the desired fit, lay the sling out on a flat surface and measure the top rail as shown below. Once you have that measurement, click here to see the Hotslings Classic sizing chart and the match your measurement to the “shoulder to hip” measurement listed on the chart.

How do I know if my sling fits properly?

When baby is being worn, the bottom of your pouch should hang just below your belly button. See our fit page for a diagram.

If I order the wrong size, can I return or exchange it?

Our return and exchange policies are listed on our website. If you purchase from one of our many retailers, be sure you know the return/exchange policy of any that location before you buy.

What are the advantages of carriers like the Hotslings pouch-style slings?

A fitted pouch sling, like our Hotslings Classic slings, is much easier to use than most other carriers. There are no fasteners or hardware to worry about and the streamlined design is geared toward the comfort of both the parent and the baby.

The Hotslings AP also offers the comfort and simplicity of a fitted pouch with the added flexibility of the adjustable straps and buckles. Unlike ring slings, the AP offers infinite adjustability without a whole lot of excess fabric.

Hotslings carriers have minimal padding so they’re extremely compact and easy to carry. Most importantly, sling carriers like Hotslings encourage parent/child bonding and enhance attachment parenting. Experts agree that babies nestled close to a parent’s body develop a more secure relationship with themselves and the world around them.

Do I need a new sling when my child gets bigger?

As your child grows, you can change the position in which you carry him or her in the sling. You most likely will not need another size in the Hotslings Classic sling because less of the actual baby's body is in the sling as he or she grows and sits up.

With the addition of the Hotslings AP worrying about child size, parent size, postpartum weight change or nursing is no longer an issue as you can just adjust to your preferred Hotslings fit and go.

Does the leg padding in Hotslings make them bulky or hot?

We designed the leg padding feature in 2003 for maximum comfort for babies' legs in the hip carry position. The padding doesn’t take away from the sleek, streamlined design or the comfortable, breathable feeling of the sling.

Is my baby as safe in a sling carrier as in other types of carriers?

Hotslings is absolutely committed to your child’s safety. Our founder is on the ASTM board that creates safety standards for sling carriers in the United States. We are on the cutting edge of any research and development that is being done in the field of baby carrier safety. You can rest assured that if your baby is properly positioned in one of our slings, he or she is safe and secure.

Always be sure that your baby is between the two layers of fabric in the pouch and that you are comfortable with the sling positioning as well. Watch the instructional videos on the instruction pages of the site and read all the instructions carefully before using your Hotsling.

What should I do if my baby is leaning too far back in the hip carry?

This situation calls for a technique called the “shoulder-flip.” Hotslings Classic slings are not tacked in any way so you can pull the top layer of fabric away from your neck, across, and down your shoulder and this will pull baby in toward you. The style bonus is that this technique looks really great if you are wearing a reversible sling with a coordinating color on the inside.

The “shoulder-flip” can also be achieved in the Hotslings AP either by flipping from the back when the sling is worn on the right shoulder. If you prefer to wear the AP on the left shoulder simply flip the fabric as it is described above for the Hotslings Classic sling. The top buckle on the AP can also be tightened to give a similar effect.

How do I care for my Hotslings products?

All Hotslings products are machine washable. We recommend line dry for Hotslings Classic slings, but the rest of our products can be tumbled dry on low. Check your product’s care tag for the most accurate washing instructions.
